Strong case studies can breathe life into the way a charity describes its work, making them a valuable tool for reaching audiences. But interview material is often gathered by frontline workers, who have a strong understanding of the issues but may lack the journalistic skills to elicit compelling, emotive quotes.

I have extensive experience of gathering rich interview material, often from vulnerable clients and service users. Drawing on my previous work as a volunteer with a national befriending charity, I ensure that the interview itself is a positive and therapeutic experience. I enable the person to explore the challenges they have faced, and to feel their voice is heard, before focusing on how the organisation has helped turn their situation around. The result is an inspiring and emotive story with a clear ‘before’ and ‘after’ that engages the reader and clearly demonstrates the organisation’s effectiveness.

The organisation can then retain the interview material as a raw resource, which it can adapt to a range of purposes, or I can edit it down to fit the scope and format of a specific publication.

I have experience of working with people facing a range of challenges, including dementia, physical disability, depression, homelessness, severe mental illness, poverty and social exclusion.
