To support my professional development, I take part in a number of networks that enable communications professionals to exchange information and keep abreast of best publishing practice, including the National Union of Journalists, the Society of Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), CharityComms and MediaWomenUK.

  • I am an NCVO Approved Consultant. To achieve this status I have to present evidence each year of my performance against five standards, to demonstrate the quality of the services I provide.
  • In 2011 I attended the Department of Health’s Information Standard training, so am able to support health and social care organisations working towards certification or providing information that achieves this quality mark.
  • I sit on the steering group of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) Publishers Forum.
From 2006 to 2008 I wrote a column for the Society of Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) magazine Editing Matters called ‘A cut above’ and I gave a lecture at SfEP’s 2006 conference entitled ‘Taking a client-focused approach’.
